1920’s Mountaineering

Here is a group of mountaineers trekking in the snow. Possibly trekking up Mt. Hood in Oregon?

There are so many unknowns about this photograph. Here is what I do know. This photo was in the Mary M. Dargatz Welke picture collection. It could be from either the Dargatz or Welke family.

The picture looks like it was taken in the early 1920’s. Ferdinand Welke immigrated from what is now Poland along the Bug River in 1920. He settled in Portland, Oregon. Mary Dargatz immigrated around the same time from Alberta, Canada to Portland. That is where they met and got married in 1924. Ferdinand and Mary Dargatz Welke lived during the mid-to-late 1920s around Portland, Oregon.
